A Heart Lies Beneath

"A Heart Lies Beneath" is satire based on The Baader-Meinhof Affair. In The Baader-Meinhof Affair society's romance with the outlaw is revealed in a story about love between modern-day American aficionados of the Baader-Meinhof Gang (a 1970s German terrorist group comprising mainly of middleclass students). Romanticizing the outlaw is a long-standing trope of romance and Hollywood, but here is taken to unromantic extremes.

The 7-minute live footage (with Fabio) and animated pilot was written, directed, and drawn by Erin Cosgrove initially produced for the Sundance Channel's TVLab. The visual style for the animation is partly based on 1950's romance comic books.
